Find a U.S. Cellular store near you at: www.uscellular.com/callingallcommunities

I know you may have family and friends in other schools, I know a lot of schools need the money, but I ask that you help this one school win this year, Parkade Elementary!

PTA minutes for March

Parkade PTA
Meeting March 21, 2013

Approval of last PTA minutes: Tia McPike

A motion was made to approve last month’s minutes by Dianna Carter.  The motion was seconded.

Old Business
Family Reading Night
There was not an accurate number for attendance.  It was reported by Mrs. Caldwell that the numbers were less than expected but everyone who came seemed to enjoy themselves.
(Perhaps we should consider a sign in sheet for next year?)

Chuck e Cheese night was successful.  Parkade rasied $213.90

Parent/Teacher conferences were difficult with the weather but things went smoothly thanks to all the parents who supported that event.

Book Fair
The exact amount made during the spring book fair was not reported.  (Approximately $3000)
Down from 3750 in the fall.
The profits are taken in scholastic bucks.  The funds from the fall book fair provide each student with a free book at the spring book fair.  The profits from the spring book fair provide a birthday book for each child.  The PTA also gives a donation to the library from these profits.

Staff Appreciation is right after the spring festival.

Spring festival
Amy Larson reported that the bulk of the ideas are organized.
Raffle, D.J., mule rides, the overall vision is in place.  An e-mail will be sent shortly outlining the details.

Treasure Report
An error was corrected.  A 2000 expense was reported in two separate places on the budget.  The error was corrected and the available funds have increased by $2000.

Field trip money is not being spent.  Remind teachers to request.  A question was raised: Are other places funding field trips?

A previous Teacher Request from Wendy Leztz for a screen for family movie night was initially tabled because a school partner was going to provide that for Parkade.  That did not happen and Mrs. Lentz’s request for a screen was revisited.  A motion was made by Amy Larson to purchase the screen.  Vanessa Kline seconds the motion.   The motion was approved.

Principals Report
There are 75 kindergarten students currently enrolled for the fall 2013-2014 school year.  Additional students will enroll before final numbers can be presented.  The school board approved the calendar for the 2013-2014 school year.

New Business
Family fitness night is tonight (March 21, 2013)
There are three stations planned for the evening; a fitness walk in the media center, volleyball in the gym and a dietician from HyVee making trail mix in the cafeteria.

Spring Festival
The silent auction baskets will be replaced with a raffle.  There are 8 prizes to be raffled: Date Basket (Stony Creek Inn), a painting, a party on the party bus, pool membership, $150 visa gift card (Provided by Commerce Bank) , iPad mini, Cardinal baseball tickets, spa day, gift card basket.

Staff Appreciation
A planning meeting is scheduled for April 4 at 5 p.m.  Last year’s Oscar theme was discussed and a similar theme and activities will be planned for this year.

Committees
Committees are being formed for next year.
Melissa Pestle will chair the book fair.
Melissa Worley will be classroom party coordinator.
PTA still needs someone for PTA membership, Newsletter, and Yearbook
