PTA Meeting minutes for August 2012:
Tia: Welcome. Introduction of PTA Board Members:

There was a planning meeting in July. We ask parents and staff to bear with us, as we are trying some new things. It’s nice seeing so many of the staff here tonight. Thank you all for being here.
Approval of last meetings minutes: Amy Larson motions, Mary Carrol seconds. All in favor, none opposed.
Becky: Budget forms are in an easier to understand format. There is $1800 set aside for field trips this year. That is $300 for 1 field trip per grade level.
Amy Watkins: Principal Minute: 100 new students this year. Most of that is in the kindergarten classes. We have a lot of new staff, so please be sure to say hello and to welcome them to Parkade! We also have 12 College students participating in the Partner Teacher program. Our school theme this year is Parkade: School Of Champions. This year we will have 3 large scale celebration assemblies. One each semester. These celebrate academic achievements.
August 29 4:30-6:30 Get the Scoop Night ~ Each child will receive a ticket to get a free ice cream from the ice cream man, after they have visited their teacher.
New Business:
We had a record number @ Meet the Teacher night. It was the highest attendance @ Parkade in 5 years! It was a great success!
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is in it’s 5th year @ Parkade. This is a great opportunity for students to see male role models take an interest in their education. The students love seeing the gentlemen wearing the Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt. The kick off for the program will be SEPTEMBER 20 @ 6:30pm, right after the PTA meeting. We ask any moms who will be here for the PTA meeting, to please stay for the kickoff to watch the kiddos while they play on the playground.
Diana: Teacher grants (Field trip grants are separate); we will make sure that each teacher gets the form by September 13.
Movie night @ Parkade is here again for the 2nd year in a row! It is free for families.
Tia: Fundraisers: The activities sponsored by the PTA are funded by the fundraisers. Our goal as PTA, is to have ONE big fundraiser and be done. We will be doing Otis Spunkmeyer Cookies! Kick off for that is Sept. 4th – 17th. We are still going to offer the ‘opt out’ option for families. Bigger prizes such as Bounce House and popcorn party.
School Directory: Online and free for families. Link will be placed on the Facebook page and the Parkade school website. You can choose if you want to participate or not.
We have also made up several committee sign ups. These are:
Staff Appreciation
Movie Night
Spring Festival
Fundraiser
Bookfair
Media & Communication
We would greatly appreciate anyone willing to volunteer their time and efforts to any of these committees. Signing up for a committee does not mean you will be in charge. If you would like to sign up for any of these committees, please contact a member of the board. Thanks!
We are also having a PTA Meeting every month instead of every other month, please make sure to make a note of it. In conjunction with PTA meetings, we will also be having a Science night, Fun night, and a Fitness night.
Big Fall Event: Fall Family Bingo Night (still in planning)
