We have a lot of fall happenings!

October 21st at 7 p.m. is PTA movie night at the school!! This is Spirit Week!! Fall parties are coming up, make sure you tell the room parents what you are able to bring!! Today is the first student council meeting!! This Thursday is fundraiser pick up!! It gets sent back at 7 p.m. unless you pick up your items (no refunds)! Food drive and Chili supper next week! Flu shots coming up around the corner!! So much fun going on!!

This Friday is cookie dough pick up friends!! Come to the gym between 3:30 and 6 p.m. Drop off you cakes for the cake walk at that time too!

Saturday is Spring Festival!! Rain or shine, we have a plan for both!! So, come for food, games, and fun from 12 to 3 p.m.

The Animaland man also will be bringing extra animals and Panther bear shirts. If you were unable to pre purchase one, don't worry, you can buy one Saturday. (until supplies last!) He even takes debit and credit cards!!

Hello Panthers,

Our second and third graders are having their Holiday program this Thursday night at 7 p.m. Parkade Baptist church has graciously welcomed us to their auditorium for lots of room for all Panthers to come and watch. We will see you at the church, right across from the school, on Thursday night!! Yahoo!!!

Next Wednesday, December 22nd will be our Celebration Assemblies and the class Holiday Parties. Ask your student's teacher for times, they will be different for each grade and class.

Break starts December 23rd and we will see you back on January 3rd!!

which you know is being held at Stoney Creek Inn, here in Columbia.

We need a few more slots for our registration table welcoming our delegates

people to help on Sat morning, the 16th? Can you put the word out for me within

We will have final numbers soon, but we had a great turn out with fundraising orders. PTA has turned in over 12,000 dollars. We profit 50 percent on non frozen items and 40 percent on frozen items. WOOHOO!!

Summer is rolling and I hope everyone is having fun! We are starting on the garden soon at Parkade. See the section "Minutes" for the latest updates PTA meeting minutes. This is the way for you to stay informed if you are unable to come to the meetings every other month.

Email Amy Larson, amy@karischurch.org, or any office staff to see how you can help with the garden. We are starting it next week. Digging, some planting, then getting it ready for the students to really get in and get planting for fall and for next spring. We have supplies and ideas, just need hands!!!

Oh, we are ready.. Panthers, Friday is an afternoon to pick up your child at 1:10, drop off a cake for the cake walk Saturday, and pick up your cookie dough orders.... THEN come at noon on Saturday for the Spring Festival. It is a Community Event, invite all your friends. Your teacher may be in the dunking booth, you can go home with great prizes and a cake!! Ticket tables will have 4 tickets for a dollar or 25 for five dollars. Lunches will be $3.00 for a hot dog, chips, cookie, and a drink. T-shirt orders will be taken, sno cones will be licking, pop corn munching, and games-a-playing!!

The Columbia Art League offers Summer Art Camps for children ages 6-13. The camps are built to encourage kids and young artists to explore their creativity while receiving quality art instruction in downtown Columbia. Each week-long session has a different theme and runs Mon.-Fri., 9:00am-3:00pm. Camps begin June 14 and end August 13. The cost for non-CAL members is $175/week, $160 for CAL members. A list of sessions and registration forms may be found online at www.cal.missouri.org, or call 573-443-8838 for more information.

Comedy Night

CAGT-PTA (this is the gifted program's PTA) is having it's 2nd annual Comedy night fundraiser at Deja Vu comedy club. This year we are having a silent auction before the show. The comedy night is Friday April 30 at 7:30. Silent auction will begin at 5:30 and end before the show. You must be present no later than 7pm for seating. All tickets are $10, checks payable to CAGT-PTA. All ticket holders will get free soft drinks that night. If you would like a ticket, contact Amy Larson at amy@karischurch.org. I will make sure you can pay and receive your ticket at the school.

PTA (parent/teacher association) is part of a national organization. Parkade's PTA has a board that guides the year, then Columbia Council has a board (CCPTA is Columbia Counsel Parent/Teacher Association) that helps all the Columbia Public School's PTA boards. What a blast tonight at Empire Roller Rink. We made $1.50 per $5.00 skater. A total of $285 to go towards Spring Festival and Field Trips. We will have to roller skate again soon.

Tomorrow, January 19th is our PTA meeting. Come to the library at 5:15. We have a guest speaker. Also, we will be discussing the committees for Spring Festival!!!

This Thursday is our skate party. Come to Empire Roller Rink (Business Loop) from 6 to 8 p.m. It is five dollars to skate ($1.50 will go directly to the PTA account) and they have a soda drink special for us too. We can buy large drinks with free refills for $1.00. Pay for skating at the door. The $5.00 includes skates.

This Thursday night is the Second and Third grade performances. Come at 7 p.m. to the school.

This Saturday, the 12th, is our school's Barnes and Noble fundraising Event. The first grade classes will perform at 11 a.m. in the food court, right at the main entrance to Barnes and Noble.

Go to Barnes and Noble, in the mall, anytime during the 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. hours (on the 12th)and purchase ANYTHING in the store (coffee, food, books) and TELL THE CASHIER YOU ARE FROM PARKADE. The school will receive money back. We will use this money for classrooms and field trips. If you want a copy of the PTA budget, email Amy at amy@karischurch.org.

Remember to vote for Parkade through U.S. Cellular.. Go to a store, grab a "calling all communities" card, go home and vote. That is all you do! Please ask all family and friends to help out too, from all over the country. Go here to find a store near you!

This week is the H1N1 vaccine at the school. Make sure your form has been signed and turn it in to the teacher.

December 12th is the Barnes and Noble Fundraising day. Buy anything in the store, the food area, etc.. and 15 to 25 percent will be donated to Parkade PTA. That will help the PTA budget money for field trips, 5th grade graduation, classroom supplies, etc.

Use Your Noodle and Fundraising Night

Last night was a great noodle night!! We sold T-shirts and handed out the fundraising items. Your student will be bringing them home today, if you did not pick them up yesterday. The prizes will come in next week. You can still buy t-shirts at any school event, just look for the PTA table. The money will go towards field trips for your students and for some classroom supplies. You may also donate any money to the PTA fund. The money will go towards the trips and the supplies also. Have a great October!!

Can the Huskers Night!!

Saturday, October 17th vs. Nebraska is our annual Can the Huskers Night at
Mizzou Volleyball. Receive free admission to the match with the donation of
2 can food items. This is going to be a very special night, we have pledged
to collect TWICE the amount of food we collected last year, a total of 1400
pounds. We can’t do it alone. We would like you to help us reach our goal.
We would love for the Parkade Elementary family to be a part of this
exciting night benefiting Mid-Missouri families in need. The match begins
at 6:30 PM and is played at the Hearnes Center. Contact Haleigh Harrold at
hthqmb@mail.mizzou.edu with questions.

This is going to be a very Special Night at Mizzou Volleyball. Nebraska is
Mizzou Volleyball’s BIGGEST rival. During the match you have the chance to
win t-shirts and Mizzou volleyballs. Gentry Middle School 7th Grade Choir
will sing the National Anthem. At our intermission there will be an
exciting performance by Center Stage Dance, a youth dance group. After the
match the players will sign autographs on our 2009 posters.

Free Health Fair/Child Identification event being held in Columbia. It is Oct 17, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Missouri Methodist Church on 9th St. It is a free event open to everyone. Identification packets can be provided for children birth to age 21. If you have had a packet done in the past you can bring your packet and have it updated with new pictures and information.

Muffins with Mom... Tuesday, October 20th

We will have "Muffins with Mom" on Tuesday, October 20 from 8:15-8:45 AM in the gym. Moms will be invited to have a muffin and juice with their student that morning. Sexual Abuse Prevention Program

A sexual abuse prevention program is presented each year to all elementary students in the Columbia Public Schools. Any interested parent will have the opportunity to preview the materials that will be used in the classrooms. The Columbia elementary school counselors will host a special meeting for parents to preview the films and materials, which will be shown to students during the 2009-2010 school year. The evening meetings will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Mill Creek Elementary School, 2200 Nifong Blvd. West, Columbia, MO 65203 and Tuesday, October 13, 2009, Derby Ridge Elementary School, 4000 Derby Ridge Drive., Columbia, MO. 65202. A letter with more information will be sent home soon. Wow, last night was amazing.. 250 dads showed up and several hundred kids!!
You can learn all about Watch DOGS (Dads Of Great Students) by linking up to: http://fathers.com and then go to the Watch DOGS section.

We need father figures to sign up in the Parkade Elementary office, or email Amy or Carrie Freeman. You will be a dog for a day, meaning you wear a cool shirt, you hang out with kids as they go through their day, and the kids will benefit from men being involved and around them.

Old Business:

Skate Night: Got paid for the first night (pre-k to 2^nd), and still waiting to hear from owner of Empire Skating Rink. Reason we have not been paid for the second night is because we were supposed to have at least 50 in attendance. However, we were not told this in advance.

Principal’s Minute:

Amy Watkins: Thank you for the Cookie Exchange! It was a success and the cookies were very yummy and everyone who participated enjoyed it. Thank you for the support and help with the Holiday bags. We were able to help 110 Parkade Families! Thank you for the help with Muffins with Mom! We have 15 partner teachers which is a little more than we had before holiday break. February is assessment month.

Guest Speaker:

Sky Jimenez: Celebrate the Dream ~ PTA co-sponsor. In mid 1990’s, it was found that many kids did not know that there are African-Americans here in Columbia that are successful in all types of professions. A couple of the purposes of Celebrate the Dream:

1. To introduce 5^th graders to an African-American role models in their own community.

2. Give them ideas of what they can do with their lives after schooling.

Parkade Elementary is the only school in Columbia that participates in this program. The program teaches kids basic table manners for the Celebration Lunch. The students are paired up with their mentor for 2 hours, which they will use to interview them and then give a report to their class. February 14-16 will be job shadowing. Wednesday the 29^th will be the Celebration Lunch. 9 volunteers are needed-3 people each day for the 3 days. Volunteers will simply ride the bus with the students and then escort them to and from their mentor. Volunteers are welcome to attend the Celebration Lunch for $4.50.

Book Fair-Luau Theme

Fundraiser: 1 for Books ~ will be the week before Book Fair. Uses spare change that kids can bring in and put in their ‘class’ jar. Class with the most change at the end of the week will receive a Pizza party or a Doughnut party.

Volunteers are needed to help students pick out their free $5 book. Set up is Thursday Feb. 16 with teacher preview, to make wish list, on Friday Feb. 17. We will be continuing the Book Fair Bingo. Last Book Fair we made $3600. After expenses we had $1200. It costs $2000 to buy a book for every student. Everything that is made from the 1 for Books and the money from the Book Fair itself, goes right back to the students.

Facebook page is up and running. Anyone can post. It is also a good place to keep updated w/ school happenings.
